Help for Heroes

Help for Heroes was launched in October 2007 by a group of friends and service relations who wished to do something to help the wounded coming back from Afghanistan and Iraq.

Help for Heroes is very simple; we are strictly non political, we accept that wars happen under any government and we are not critical; we simply want to help.

Veterans in Prison Association

The purpose of VIPA is to:

Reduce victims by rehabilitating veterans - reducing reoffending is at the heart of everything that VIPA wants to do.

Empower prisoners who are veterans to develop their own community of support, under the management of volunteer staff who are (mostly) ex veterans themselves.

Look towards providing easier access for specialist external service providers and agencies to address any issues that may need resolving from their military experience.

Promote a sense of camaraderie, self-esteem, pride, and identity. This would help veterans in prison to avoid feeling isolated and to support each other whilst in prison.

Set a core model of working that prisons can use to support their veterans.

Encourage veterans in prison to reconnect to their service associations and the wider veteran community.

Encourage veterans in prison to fully engage in the sentence planning process to address their offending behaviour ready for eventual release.

Reconnect veterans in prison to positive aspects of their past whilst serving in the forces.
